Run Continues…..

1st half was a very tight affair with the T defence rarely being troubled, such was T’s dominance in this half Nathan only had 1 real safe to make. With Alfie in Total charge of the midfield T continually moved forward with some good passing moves which resulted in chances falling to Alfie, Bethany, Joe and Tommy. Unfortunately the only thing missing was a finish with a cutting edge. The introduction of Bamiyo after 15 mins again saw chances fall to T but, unfortunately, ending the same way as earlier efforts. The most impressive part from the half (and the game) was the improvement of the players movement for the ball, with Alfie, Bethany, Kieran, Tommy and in particular Joe all showing the benefits of the 2 training session done this week (this may not have been noticed by the parents but, I would like to say to well done to the players, great improvement), HT 0-0.

2nd half saw T continue to press forward but, in doing so, they began to give D more opportunities and the game became very open. T eventually got the goal they deserved with a loose ball just outside the D area, hotshot Alfie fired towards goal, not one of his specials but it found the back of the net nevertheless, 0-1. T continued to play good football going forward but again their finishing could not match the approach work, albeit at times the desperate D defending and goalkeeping was also a contributing factor. T Defending, however, was also becoming a little frantic and failure to clear by 2 or 3 players saw Tommy totally exposed and for D to  equalise, 1-1.

The introduction of Nathan failed to produce any change, as in previous weeks, in T efforts on goal. So after a little breather Joe was brought back on. Within minutes of returning Joe had a chance to put T back in front, his effort was well blocked by the advancing D keeper. T defensively were having a battle of their own, with Tommy also having to make a couple of saves to ensure T did not fall behind.

Eventually T managed to finish one of their many moves of the half with the ball in the net. Some good approach work between Bethany and Alfie saw a through ball arrive to Joe just inside the D area, this time Joe calmly placed the ball past the advancing keeper, 1-2.

With 20seconds to go T looked assured of victory. However, with the ball clearly going out of play and T all coming to a standstill D capitalised, on the error by the ref, with one of those high looping hopefuls finding its way into the net, 2-2.

A controversial and sad way to end a game they deserved to win however, a lesson to learn is "always play to the whistle".

Well done all the team, a great effort with some very good football, great improvement, goals and the run continues (1 defeat in 6).

MOM: Joe (no trophy again, déjà vue Joe eh?)

The Writing and Winning Continues…..!

T down to 8 players this week and needed a good start. However a number of players started the game slowly which led to a tight 1st half and seeing the T defence, of Tommy and Harry, playing particularly well. As the game wore on T, driven on by Alex, began to get more into their passing game with some good exchanges between Alfie, Alex and Kieran setting up Bamiyo on 3 occasions, his last effort being the best bringing out a good save from the MB keeper. Alfie also came close with another of his Rifle like shots, again being saved by the keeper.

T finally got the breakthrough they deserved with an excellent passing move starting with Harry from the back to Kieran, who had good exchanges with Alex and Alfie, resulting in a shot from Alfie being only half stopped by the keeper with the non-stop Alex following up to tap in, 1-0.

Just before half time MB broke away and a good strike just outside the area seemed to be well covered by Nathan however, his parry of the shot saw the ball loop over him and make the ht score 1-1.

T started the second half well with some good passing moves and with both Bamiyo and Bethany making good runs down the wings chances began to fall to T. 5 mins into the 2nd half T finally got their reward with another good strike from the “hit man” “goal machine” Alfie, 2-1.

The fresh legs of Nathan enabled him to hold the ball up more and enable the trio of Bethany, Alex and Bamiyo to continue to attack the MB goal. It was a through ball by Bethany that saw Nathan outpace the defence, slide in, beat the advancing keeper and rifle the ball into the corner of the goal (his 1st goal for nearly a year), 3-1.

The spirit of MB was to be admired, T still needed some excellent defending by Harry, Kieran and along with Tommy also making 2 good saves the game looked to be heading T’s way. However, with 5 mins left, and T beginning to tire, MB had a good passing move ending with a great strike leaving Tommy no chance, 3-2.

With T showing signs of tiring changes were made, the fresher legs of Alfie in midfield and the strength of Bamiyo at the back, saw T regain control for the final 5 mins. The game concluding with a T free kick on the edge of MB seeing Alfie “hit man” fire into the MB wall, 2 seconds latter the final whistle, 3-2 to T who are now 1 defeat in 5.

Well done all the team, a great effort with some very good football, a win and goals to boot.

MOM: Harry (a trophy this time)

He only Writes when their winning…..!

After many weeks of playing some excellent football and failing to record a win T finally recorded their second win of the season. A good start saw good efforts by Alex, Alfie, Bethany and Joe all saved well by the DH keeper. As usually happens in football, DH broke away and, with Nathan for once failing to gather, DH scored the 1st goal, completely against the run of play. DH gained confidence from this and came much more into the game with the T defense of Harry, Tommy and Nathan having to be very alert with some excellent tackles and good keeping. T began to find the sloping pitch hard going towards the end of the half put continued to press forward, With Alex in particular, making runs from deep in our half and into the DH box. Eventually the DH keeper was finally beaten, with Alex on one of his runs finding the net and giving T a well deserved equaliser just before half time.

Second half saw T continue to dominate possession but unable to create too many clear cut chances. It was the defense, at this point it was Wil and Kieran, who ensured DH did not add to their score. After 10 mins of 2nd half Nathan came on for a rare appearance outfield. With Nathan’s physique and touch keeping the DH defense busy Bethany, Bamiyo and Alex began to enjoy more freedom and chances came T’s way. With a good through ball from Nathan, Bamiyo was clean through to make it 2-1. Another chance saw Bamiyo slide just wide of the goal. The DH keeper was now very busy and was clearly keeping DH in the game with saves from Bethany, Alex, Bamiyo and Nathan. T finally added to their tally with a well struck shot from Kieran hitting the roof of the net making it 3-1 to T. DH tried to bravely to add to their tally but some excellent defending by Wil and Harry, and not to mention 2 good saves by Tommy kept the score at 3-1.

T have now only lost 1 of their last 4 games, hopefully they continue the good run in the comming weeks?

MOM: Harry, beginning to find his old form (did not receive trophy due to last week’s winner forgetting to return it….again!!!!)

Team: Alex, Alfie, Bamiyo, Bethany, Harry, Joe, Kieran, Nathan, Tommy & Will

Goals: Alex, Bamiyo and Kieran.

TIGERS U10 - 13/9/09 v Newtown 09/10 Season Print

Great start, no key for the goals container, no water for drinking bottles and no hammer for the goal pegs. Fortunately the Newtown (N) manager was late and in transit so they were happy for the delay. With at least 1 parent a little tender from the night before questions were mounting up, does the "new manager" know what he's doing (will he ever)?

After frantic efforts a key & hammer were found and we were ready to start, though still no water for the bottles. On the plus side both teams had excellent warm ups and were ready to go (thanks Colin).

The game saw 3 players, Alfie, Alex and Bamiyo, making their league debuts for T. 1st game of the season, 1st attack of the game & 1st goal went to T less than 30 seconds after the start. Certainly no T goal has ever been scored so quickly into the season or game. After excellent & quick exchange between Alex, Joe and Bamiyo the ball was in the net, Joe's and T 1st of the season (did any Newtown touch the ball before it hit the net?). N battled and had a good long range shot well saved by Nathan. For all the good football T played in the 1st half they could not add to their score and as the half came to a close they became a little frantic and loss their way a little leaving Wil & Harry having to do some frantic defending, though credit to N for battling and refusing to cave to earlier T pressure.

2nd half saw T start as they had the 1st playing some excellent passing and moving with good exchanges between midfield trio of Bethany, Alex and Bamiyo. Alfie, on for Joe in 2nd half, came more into the game and began link up well with the midfield. 10 mins into the half finally saw T add to their tally, a ball from the back saw Alfie charge towards goal but as he shot he was pushed in the back & failed to get a good connection, the ball fell loose off the keeper which saw Alex give great support & follow up with a simple tap in, 2-0. Again Alfie received a ball from the back in a 1 on 1 but with Beth making a great decoy run on the outside, Alfie turned inside and let fly with a rasping right foot into the bottom corner, 3-0. With minutes to go most of the T had, what appeared a team meeting in front of the spectators, leaving Nathan to take on 3 N forwards on his own, he lost and N had their consolation goal, 3-1.

MOM: Bamiyo. His countless runs down the right, battling in midfield, crosses into the box & 1 assist.

Team: Alex, Alfie, Bamiyo, Bethany, Harry, Joe, Kieran, Nathan, Tommy & Will

Goals: Joe, Alex & Alfie
